We are part of a national organization whose mission is To unite in a sisterhood qualified business and professional women who will encourage, inspire, nurture, and assist persons engaged in business vocations.
Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. has enjoyed a rich and extensive history of leadership and community service. We began in 1929 with our founder, Lola Mercedes Parker and six other women who shared her vision. We now have 70 chapters with memberships numbering nearly 1500 in 60 cities, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Gamma Tau Chapter (located in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul) was founded on April 8th, 1967 by Bernyce Welling, Dalphine Robinson, Marlene Daniels, Dorothy Ellison, Lillian Warren, Bertha Smith, Dr. Norma Jean Anderson, Lillian Anthony, and Gwendolyn Jefferson, a group of women who believed in the same ideals as Lola M. Parker.
The members of Gamma Tau Chapter are very active in the business of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. We promote the National Iota Programs including “Toys U Can’t Return”, “Iota Mothers Assistance Program”, Career Exploration and Tutoring. In addition, we engage in activities to honor our heritage, educators and entrepreneurship, as well as, communicate with our Sisters and friends locally and nationwide. To this end we celebrate National Education Week, Correspondence Month, Black History Month, and Business Month. Further, we support national organizations such as the National Urban League, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Children’s Defense Fund, and the United Negro College Fund to mention a few.
